Researchers at the University of Waterloo studied Insurance Company data from 28 million trips. The researchers were looking to see possible links between unsafe driving and the chances of a car accident.
The researchers identified speeding is a strong indicator of crashes but not the other kinds of aggressive driving studied.
As a personal injury lawyer, these findings are not very surprising. Car Accidents commonly occur because someone is speeding. Because they are traveling so fast it is difficult for the person to control or stop in time to avoid a collision. However, crashes do NOT typically occur because someone stops to fast, turns the corner too fast, or accelerates to fast.
